The secret life of a candle

Is there an expiry date for the candle or will the age effect it in any way?

The burn time of a candle is usually referred to as the “burn time”, which basically means approximately how long the candle will burn when lit. There are factors that can affect the burn time, e.g. the size of the candle, the type of wax, the type and number of wicks in the candle. Our Price’s Large Jar range of scented candles have an approximate burn time of 150 hours.

The lifespan of an unlit candle depends, among other things, on the type of wax used and the way it is stored.

Candles that use certain types of wax such as paraffin wax can last indefinitely, provided they are stored correctly. However, there is also wax with a shorter lifespan, such as soya wax, which may have a shorter life span.

Candles that are scented change over time because the molecules of the scented oil evaporate over time, even if the candle is not burning. This means that it is best to burn your candle earlier if you want the strongest fragrance. However, this is only an estimate as it depends on the type of wax used and the quality of the fragrance used. Price’s Candles uses the highest quality ingredients and 100% refined paraffin wax, so you will find the good quality and fragrance you expect from a candle.

Coloured candles may fade over time and that is because of over exposure to UV light over a long period of time causes the dyes to oxidise and degrade. So, the best way to avoid this when you are storing your candles don’t have them sat in direct sunlight and it will help increase the lifespan of the colour.

Well, the short of it is let’s store our candles properly and we can make the enjoyment of the candle last that much longer. When using fragrance candles use  the jar lids or a bell cloche.

This will keep the fragrance fresher for longer. Keep your candle out of direct sunlight and other harsh lighting. Avoid areas with temperature differences like a radiator or air vent and avoid storing in an area with high moisture like a bathroom.

Only thing left to say is,  candles are meant to be burnt 😀
